A Royal Gathering of Eagles - August 30, 2010

An Opportunity for All Scouts to Celebrate

On August 30, 2010, thousands of Scouts, particularly Eagle Scouts, will converge on Kauffman Stadium at the “Royal Gathering of Eagles.” On that evening we are envisioning the largest assemblage of Eagle Scouts ever seen in the Midwest. We are inviting every

Scout and Scouter in the Heart of America Council to join us. Kauffman Stadium and Scouting share a strong tie through the late owner of the Royals, Eagle Scout Ewing M. Kauffman. It is fitting that we hold this special event in the stadium that bears his name.

The August 30 game will have a distinctly Scouting flavor. A Scout will throw out the first pitch. A special presentation on the field will recognize 10 Eagle Scouts as they receive the first “Ewing M. Kauffman Eagle Scout Awards” for living the Scout Oath and Law and emulating Mr. Kauffman’s values in their personal and business lives. Tickets for Eagles Scouts, regardless of where you earned your Eagle, are complimentary. You must register to attend by visiting the website listed below. Tickets for family members, Scouts and Scouters can be purchased in advance at the discounted price of $5.00 each.

For 100 years, baseball and Scouting have been two of America’s most treasured traditions, teaching the values of teamwork and integrity. Among those who were Scouts at one time, include Hall of Famers Hank Aaron, Stan Musial, and Joe DiMaggio. August 30 will be a special opportunity to celebrate Scouting’s Centennial and Eagle Scouts while enjoying America’s national pastime.

Scout Out Hunger - Because 1 Person in 8 Goes Hungry Each Day

Far too many families in our community lead a fragile existence and often face difficult choices between paying for food, shelter, utilities or health care. An alarming number of the people who are hungry are children. Hunger has no geographic boundaries; families in every county and every community of our council are affected. Your participation in Scout Out Hunger will make a difference.

Tips for a succesful Scout Out Hunger drive:

  • If you have not done so already, work with your district’s Scout Out Hunger Coordinator to choose a collection area close to your unit’s meeting place.
  • Once you have selected an area, work with your unit committee to develop a detailed plan to ensure that every house on each street is covered.
  • Be sure to enlist the involvement of all Scouting families. Explain the project’s importance and your unit’s plan carefully. Have Scouts work with buddies or in groups. Encourage Scouts to stay on the sidewalks and work one side of a street at a time. Have an adult assigned to supervise, Scouts should be working alone.
  • On Saturday, September 11, have everyone meet before covering their assigned area. You may want to assign street at this meeting. Be sure to hang the bag on the door of each home. Do not place the bag in the mail box. Assign a group to follow up on bag distribution for any missed homes.
  • On Saturday, September 18, again have eveyone meet before returning to their assigned areas to collect the food bags. Have the same Scouts cover the same streets on both weekends. Don’t start too pick up too early. Give people time to set their bags out. Assign someone to do a followup run through the assigned neighborhoods in the early afternoon to collect any missed bags.

Key Scout Out Hunger Dates
