ScoutSurge 9/11

Bring Scouts and non-Scouts together at 8:46 am on 9/11 to show respect for those who died on September 11, 2001.

This is a youth driven event. It is up to each troop, post or crew to make it as big and exciting as they want.

Units should:

  • Decide on a specific location to meet at precisely 8:46 am on September 11.
  • Be sure to select as public a location as possible without obstructing traffic or creating a safety hazard.  (Standard Scouting policies apply.)
  • Meet exactly at 8:46 am and recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • Use Twitter, texting, email, Facebook, and MySpace to spread the word.

Ideas for the event:

  • Use this to kickoff Scout Out Hunger.
  • Have all who attend wear a red, white or blue shirt.
  • Hand out flags to wave.
  • Fly the Flag of Honor (www.flagofhonor.org/bsa).
  • Honor a local hero.
  • Visit a local fire or police department and say thank you.
  • Invite a band to perform.
  • Have everyone meet for breakfast after the event.
  • Invite the media.
